Homemade Apple Crisp (Print Version)

Warm cinnamon-spiced apples under a crispy, buttery oat topping - perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

# Ingredients:

→ Filling

01 - 5 cups fresh apples, sliced
02 - 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
03 - 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
04 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

→ Topping

05 - 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
06 - 1/3 cup old-fashioned oats
07 - 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
08 - 1/4 teaspoon salt
09 - 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
10 - 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted

# Steps to Follow:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a deep-dish pie plate or large baking dish with butter or cooking spray and set aside.
02 - In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Mix until all apples are evenly coated. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
03 - In a medium-sized bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Pour in the melted butter and stir until the mixture is well coated and crumbly.
04 - Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the coated apples in the baking dish.
05 - Bake in the preheated oven for 45-60 minutes, until the fruit is soft and the topping is golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

# Additional Notes:

01 - Slice apples evenly to ensure uniform baking. Use an apple slicer to speed up slicing, and then cut the largest slices into halves to ensure slices are around half an inch thick.
02 - If the topping starts browning too quickly, loosely cover the dish with aluminum foil and continue baking.
03 - Optional additions like chopped nuts (e.g., pecans or walnuts) can enhance the topping, but omit if there are nut allergies.
04 - Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
