01 -
In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté ground beef until thoroughly browned.
02 -
Incorporate diced onion and continue cooking until softened. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Drain excess fat from the pan.
03 -
Stir in cream of mushroom soup, frozen mixed vegetables, and sour cream if using. Add a small amount of milk or broth if the mixture is too thick, mixing until cohesive.
04 -
Remove pan from heat and allow the mixture to cool for approximately 10 minutes to prevent excess moisture in the final dish.
05 -
Evenly spread the meat and vegetable mixture into a greased 23x33 cm baking dish. Sprinkle with shredded cheese. Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer on top, piercing several for steam release.
06 -
Bake in a preheated oven at 190°C for 30–35 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden and crisp. Scatter additional cheese on top during the last 5 minutes of baking if desired.
07 -
Remove from the oven and allow to rest for 5 minutes before portioning and serving.
