In a large saucepan, combine orange gelatin powder, vanilla cook and serve pudding mix, and hot water.

Place saucepan over medium heat and bring mixture to a boil, stirring frequently. Continue boiling and stirring until it turns a clear orange color, approximately 5 minutes.

Pour the hot mixture into a large mixing bowl. Chill in the refrigerator until fully set, about 4 hours or overnight.

Fold whipped topping into the chilled gelatin-pudding mixture until fully combined. A potato masher may be used for smoother consistency.

Gently stir drained mandarin oranges into the mixture.

Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
