In a medium saucepan, stir together granulated sugar and water or orange juice until the sugar dissolves completely.

Place saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a rolling boil.

Add cranberries to the boiling liquid. Allow mixture to return to a boil.

Lower heat to medium-low. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cranberries will burst and the mixture will begin to thicken.

Continue cooking until most cranberries have popped and the sauce reaches your preferred thickness.

Remove saucepan from heat. Allow sauce to cool before transferring to a serving dish or storing in the refrigerator.
