Black Forest Trifle (Print Version)

Layers of chocolate cake, cherry filling, and whipped cream create an elegant dessert that's perfect for entertaining.

# Ingredients:

→ Cake

01 - One 9×13 chocolate cake or brownie baked

→ Filling

02 - 30 ounces cherry pie filling (approx 2 cups)
03 - 4 ounces kirsch or cherry brandy, or cherry juice for non-alcoholic version
04 - 2 boxes chocolate pudding (90 grams each), prepared

→ Whipped Cream

05 - 1 ½ cups cold heavy whipping cream or double cream
06 - 2-4 tablespoons (15-30 grams) powdered sugar
07 - 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

→ Garnish

08 - Fresh cherries
09 - Shaved chocolate
10 - Chocolate sprinkles
11 - Icing sugar or cocoa powder for dusting

# Steps to Follow:

01 - Bake chocolate cake according to package directions or homemade recipe. Cool completely. Cut cake into 1-inch cubes.
02 - Prepare pudding as directed or using a homemade recipe, and allow to cool.
03 - In a large mixing bowl, add heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Start mixing on low speed. Once the mixture increases in volume, increase speed to medium-high until stiff peaks form.
04 - Place half of the cake in the bottom of a trifle bowl, pressing down lightly. Drizzle with half of the kirsch if using. Top with half of the pudding, half of the cherries, and half of the whipped cream. Repeat layers, ending with whipped cream. Cover and chill in the fridge for 1-4 hours or overnight.
05 - Before serving, garnish with fresh cherries, chocolate sprinkles, or shaved chocolate as desired. Serve chilled.

01 - Chilling the trifle overnight enhances its flavor.
