French Onion Beef Rice Casserole (Print Version)

A hearty one-dish meal combining ground beef, rice, and French onion flavor, baked until bubbly with melted cheese on top.

# Ingredients:

→ Main Ingredients

01 - 1 lb ground beef
02 - 1 small onion, diced
03 - 1 cup uncooked long-grain white rice
04 - 1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup
05 - 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
06 - 1 1/2 cups beef broth, low sodium preferred
07 - 1 tsp garlic powder
08 - 1/2 tsp black pepper
09 - 1 tbsp olive oil
10 - Salt, to taste (optional)

→ Toppings

11 - 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese
12 - Crispy fried onions (optional)

# Steps to Follow:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
02 - In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil, ground beef, and diced onion. Cook, breaking up the meat, until beef is browned and onion is softened. Drain excess fat.
03 - In a mixing bowl, combine uncooked long-grain rice, French onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, garlic powder, black pepper, and a pinch of salt if needed.
04 - Stir the cooked beef and onion into the rice mixture until evenly combined. Pour mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread in an even layer. Cover tightly with foil to trap steam.
05 - Bake covered for 50–60 minutes, or until rice is tender and most liquid is absorbed.
06 - Remove foil, sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top, and bake uncovered for 5–10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly. Add crispy fried onions in the last few minutes if using.
07 - Let rest 5 minutes before serving for cleaner slices and the creamiest texture.

# Additional Notes:

01 - Letting the casserole rest ensures a creamier texture and easier serving.
