Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan, or line it with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, brown sugar, vegetable oil, applesauce, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until incorporated. Be careful not to overmix.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread evenly. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar or serve as is.
