Amish Applesauce Cake (Print Version)

A moist, spiced heirloom dessert made with applesauce, cinnamon, and nutmeg that gets better with time - a true Amish tradition.

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 ½ cups unsweetened applesauce
02 - 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
03 - 1 tsp baking soda
04 - 1 tsp ground cinnamon
05 - ½ tsp ground nutmeg
06 - ¼ tsp ground cloves
07 - ¼ tsp salt
08 - 2 large eggs
09 - ¼ cup light brown sugar
10 - ¼ cup vegetable oil
11 - 1 tsp vanilla extract

# Steps to Follow:

01 - Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan, or line it with parchment paper.
02 - In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Set aside.
03 - In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, brown sugar, vegetable oil, applesauce, and vanilla extract until smooth.
04 - Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until incorporated. Be careful not to overmix.
05 - Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread evenly. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
06 - Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar or serve as is.

# Additional Notes:

01 - Use unsweetened applesauce for a naturally sweet and healthier option.
02 - Don’t overmix the batter to maintain the cake's best texture.
03 - For extra texture and flavor, consider folding in chopped walnuts or raisins into the batter.
04 - This cake stays moist for several days and even improves in flavor.
